Christmas Tree Safety Tips

Christmas tree is an old tradition, which is associated with Christmas festival. People decorate it differently. While keeping it at home during holiday season, it also poses serious safety hazards. So there are some safety tips which are necessary to take in to consideration in order to avoid Christmas tree safety hazards.

  • Choosing right location for your Christmas tree is very much important. Never put Christmas tree near fire, radiator, or any heat source. Put it away from heat sources.
  • Picking and maintaining a healthy tree is also important. If it’s needles fall out, then it will dry out quickly and dry trees are fire hazards. So water your tree regularly in order to keep it moist.
  • If you want to purchase an artificial tree then make it sure it is fire resistant. It does not mean it will not catch fire, but it indicates resistant in burning.  
  • Keep tree at that place where it will not block way. It can be harmful for especially children and for pets.
  • To decorate tree different types of ornament are used. Don’t use any type of material to decorate the tree, which is flammable. It’s better to use plastic or non leaded material to decorate the tree, which is fire resistant.
  • Read labels carefully for any type of decoration whether it is made up of in flammable material or not.
  • Use all decorations at out of arm reach position in order to avoid small children safety hazards.
  • To decorate the tree, use always standardized light tested by laboratory.
  • Check each set of lights old or new. Don’t work with any broken socket, cracked wires, and damaged bulbs. Broken and faulty lights can start spark which will lead to fire.
  • Never use lighted candles for decoration.
  • Turn off all Christmas tree lights before going to bed or leaving house.
